Mycroft’s come to visit and, in spite of himself, Sherlock is secretly pleased to see his brother, after many lonely months of dealing with dull-minded flatmates, insipid lectures and uninspiring tutors. Of course, it only takes five minutes before they’re trying to wind each other up again. Sherlock is still smoking and, partly due to lack of funds and partly to irritate his brother, is smoking roll-ups. Just before Mycroft opens his mouth to berate his brother’s filthy habit, Sherlock reaches across the table and takes Mycroft’s own lighter from his inside jacket pocket. Mycroft waivers. The brothers share a slight smile.

Sherlock just asked Mycroft for a light only to discover that Mycroft has a lollipop not a cigarette.
“Move to the left.”
“Don’t you have a bed of your own?”
“Yours is nicer.”
“At least use the pillows.”
“The pillows aren’t as fat.”
I love this. This is how their younger selves exist in my head. So lost in the intricacies of their own complex intellects, their coldness masking a deep devotion - that sort of distanced, distracted closeness.

I am very fond of the idea that Sherlock ends up staying with Mycroft during his absence from Baker Street. It seems probable that he would end up doing something to get himself kicked out though.
